What are Skin Boosters?

How Do They Work?
Also known as injectable moisturisers or skin hydrators, skin boosters are potent blends of hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Primarily composed of hyaluronic acid: a naturally occurring substance in the body, they:

  • Replenish moisture at a deep, cellular level
  • Stimulate collagen and elastin production – essential for skin firmness and elasticity
  • Enhance skin texture, health and appearance.
  • Hydrate – without changing the visible structure of the face

When skilfully injected into the skin, hyaluronic acid, known for its remarkable ability to absorb and retain up to 1000 times its weight in water, acts as a powerful moisturiser and a
gentle filler.

Who can Benefit from Skin Booster Injections?

Since hyaluronic acid is highly biocompatible and safe for all skin types, almost everyone can benefit from the rejuvenating effects of skin boosters.

Younger skin revels in the preventative properties of hyaluronic acid – enjoying a renewed freshness and glow. While more mature skins reap its regenerative and anti-ageing rewards, with diminished fine lines and wrinkles, and a plump, velvety-smooth complexion.

Skin boosters are excellent for:

  • UV-damaged and dry skin
  • Dull, stressed, and ageing skin in need of intense hydration
  • Acne-prone, red and inflamed skin
  • Saggy skin, pesky fine lines and wrinkles

Things to Know

Before, During and After the Procedure

After

It’s common to experience some mild swelling, redness, and rarely bruising at the injection sites. This is usually temporary and should resolve within a few days to a week.

You may also feel some tightness or mild discomfort in the treated area, but this should also improve within a few days.

Before

  • Avoid taking vitamin E supplements, Ginkgo Biloba, green tea or fish oil for at least a week before your skin booster appointment to avoid bruising.
  • Avoid swimming, sauna or steam for at least 48 hours before the procedure.
  • Avoid undergoing any other facial treatment or procedure for a week prior to your skin booster session.

During

A topical anaesthetic, or numbing cream may be applied to the skin to minimise discomfort. After the skin is cleaned and disinfected, the booster is injected through micro-injections – usually in a grid pattern to ensure even coverage.

The number of injections required will depend on the area being treated and the specific product being used.

Aftercare Tips

  • No touching, rubbing or massaging the treated area immediately after the procedure to minimise the risk of infection or irritation.
  • No drugs and alcohol for at least 24 hours.
  • No blood-thinning medication for seven days. We’ll advise on this based on your health concerns.
  • No using products that contain vitamin C, AHA, and oil for 24 hours.
  • No strenuous exercise, that may increase blood flow to the face, for 24 hours.
  • No exposure to direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, sauna, or steam rooms, for the first 24-48 hours after treatment, as this can further irritate the skin.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  • No facial waxing, facials, energy-based treatments and microdermabrasion for two weeks after getting this treatment.

Please follow any specific instructions given to you. If you experience any discomfort or unusual side effects, reach out and let us know immediately.

Results

When Will I See Results and How Long Will They Last?

You may start to see improvements in skin hydration and texture immediately after the treatment. But, it can take a week or two to see the full results and a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles – as the hyaluronic acid molecules continue to attract and hold water in the skin.

Results can last for several months to up to a year or even more, depending on the individual’s skin type, lifestyle and the specific product used.

We usually recommend at least two sessions of skin booster treatment spaced over a couple of months and regular maintenance sessions every six months (approximately) for longer-lasting results.

Yes. Skin boosters are primarily intended for hydration and rejuvenation but can help improve the appearance of ageing skin, and help prevent premature ageing in younger skin.

Yes. They can be combined with treatments such as dermal fillers, Botox®, or laser therapy, depending on the individual’s needs and desired outcomes.

Skin boosters typically consist of hyaluronic acid, like most dermal fillers, but they are injected differently. While dermal fillers are used to add volume and fill in wrinkles or hollow areas, skin boosters are designed to improve skin hydration and elasticity.

Not typically reversible. However, the effects of skin boosters are temporary, and over time, the hyaluronic acid is naturally broken down by the body.

This can vary depending on skin condition and treatment goals. Typically, a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart is recommended to achieve and maintain the desired outcome.
