What is Cosmelan®?
How Does It Work?
Cosmelan® treatment is a professional depigmentation treatment, targeting the deeper melanocytes which inhibits the production of melanin.
The Cosmelan treatment typically involves two phases:
- Intense clinic depigmentation treatment: Our doctors assess your skin type, detailed skin analysis and then apply a depigmenting agent to the skin – containing active ingredients such azelaic acid, kojic acid, arbutin, and others that are known to inhibit melanocyte function and reduce pigmentation.
- Continued depigmentation, regulation and prevention: The treatment is carried on at home to further enhance the brightness of the skin and prevent the recurrence of hyperpigmentation.
The exact Cosmelan® prescription is customised by our doctors who will advise you when to apply and how often. It’s important to follow the prescribed protocol – using sun protection during and after treatment, as increased sensitivity to sunlight is common.
Why is my Intimate Area Dark?
What can I do about it?
Other factors can contribute to or cause genital hyperpigmentation:
- certain diseases and conditions, such as excess iron in the body
- exposure to heavy metals and certain medications, some of which may induce photosensitivity
Habits and behaviours also play a significant role:
- specific hair-removal techniques like hot waxing or laser treatments.
- persistent friction or irritation from tight-fitting clothing
It’s important to note that certain skin types, particularly darker phototypes, are more predisposed to this type of pigmentation in intimate areas. Fortunately, depigmentation treatment is available.
Book your consultationThe field of aesthetic gynaecology, dedicated to the health, wellbeing, and appearance of women’s intimate areas, has identified numerous factors contributing to the darkening of these regions.
A primary factor is hormonal changes, particularly fluctuations in oestrogen levels.
Events like pregnancy, postpartum periods, contraceptive use, and menopause are key contributors to these changes, affecting not just pigmentation but also other aesthetic and functional aspects.
Dermamelan Treatment to Lighten the Intimate Area
Old wives’ tales and traditional remedies are not advisable – especially for the sensitive vaginal epithelium – as they can often make things worse.
Our approach is grounded in research and innovation, advocating for professional medical-aesthetic treatments as the most effective solution.
Dermamelan® intimate offers a professional at-home treatment specifically designed to regulate pigmentation in intimate areas and prevent its recurrence. This method is more convenient compared to other depigmentation treatments, like laser treatments or exfoliation – which primarily focus on discoloration removal.
For long-term benefits, treatments aimed at hydrating and regenerating the tissue, such as mesofiller® sensitivity could be recommended.
